The Russell
Fair welcomed almost 500 seniors to its first edition of Seniors’ Day on the
Sunday afternoon last year. And this year, the organizing committee is hoping
for an even larger group.
According to
event organizer Connie Johnston, a Director with the Russell Agricultural
Society, “we’re just excited to present the 2nd Russell Fair Seniors' Day and
we're sure all attending will be thoroughly entertained for the full four
hours.” The price of your general admission includes a pancake breakfast and an
afternoon of entertainment geared towards seniors, at no additional cost.
The
successful format – entertainment, free refreshments and door prizes drawn
throughout the afternoon – will be repeated for this year’s Seniors’ Day.
Held inside
the arena, the Jennifer Armstrong Step Dancers will start things off at noon.
They will be followed by “The Miserable Ride”, a must-see spoof on the RCMP
Musical Ride. Next up, fairgoers will be treated to a returning performance of
“Sentimental Journey” by singers Ginette Hamilton and Debbie McCann.
Taking the
stage at 2 pm will be Mary Cook, a celebrated storyteller who has been
delighting Canadian audiences for years with her remembrances of growing up on a
family farm during the bittersweet years of the 1930s. She is a regular
contributor to newspapers and magazines across the country, and is the author of
10 best-selling books.
The Russell
Men’s Choir will close things off in style with their interpretation of your
favourite songs for the last hour of the show.
Refreshments
will be provided courtesy of Karine Hamel of Russell Foodland, and the door
prizes will be donated by local businesses.
Be sure to
join us on Sunday, September 12, for Seniors’ Day at the Russell Fair.
