Tire Regulations |
|
1. |
|
Tires for car events must be P-Rated,
or marked as Load Range “B”, no larger than 235/15, and cannot
have a snow-type lug on the outside of the tire. If a tire is
deemed to be too aggressive officials may rule is requires
modification or replacement. |
|
2. |
|
Each tire should have the rating
marked with colored paint to
make it easy to identify by the officiating staff. |
|
3. |
|
Tires for truck events must be
automotive passenger vehicle tires (no industrial tires), and
cannot have a snow-type lug on the outside of the tire. If a tire
is deemed to be too aggressive officials may rule is requires
modification or replacement. |
|
4. |
|
Wheel weights must be removed from
both drive and non-drive wheels. |
|
5. |
|
No double or multiple tires,
except on paved tracks (Maxville,
Rockland). |
|
6. |
|
Double P-Rated tires and single LT
tires are permitted on all paved tracks
(Maxville, Rockland). |
|
7. |
|
No solid tires, liquid filled tires or
studded tires will be permitted. |

|
Driver & Pit
Crew Rules |
|
1. |
|
All Drivers, Mechanics, and Vehicles
must report to the registration desk two hours before the start of
the event. |
|
2. |
|
Paid entry allows only one driver, one
mechanic, and one tow vehicle into the pit area. |
|
3. |
|
Each driver must attend the drivers
meeting, held approximately 30 minutes before the scheduled start
time of the competition. |
|
4. |
|
A car may only be entered once per
event (except for consolation heats and/or powder puff heats) |
|
5. |
|
No persons under 16 years of age are
allowed in the pit or track area prior to, during, or after the
race. |
|
6. |
|
Drivers and/or crew between 16 and 17
years of age must have a parent and/or guardian present when
registering to sign a parental consent form, and the parent and/or
guardian must be present throughout the duration of the event. |
|
7. |
|
The derby starts upon entering the
fairgrounds, so please act responsibly from this point forward. |
|
8. |
|
Aggressive driving is limited to the
track during the race. It will not be tolerated in the pit area. |
|
9. |
|
All Drivers and crew are required to
sign a release form prior to the race or they will not be admitted
to the pit area. |
|
10. |
|
All drivers must present a valid
Canadian drivers license at the time of entry. |
|
11. |
|
Any driver that has not paid their
entrance fee prior to the race will not participate. |
|
12. |
|
The driver must have control of his
vehicle at all times, both on the track, and in the pit area. |
|
13. |
|
Any driver, mechanic, or crew member
who does not obey the direction of the track officials will be
disqualified. |
|
14. |
|
There is ZERO
TOLERANCE for the use of any alcohol or drugs prior to
or during the race. |
|
15. |
|
Any failure to comply with the above
rules of participation will result in immediate disqualification. |
|
16. |
|
Ontario Demolition Derby reserves the
right to disqualify or refuse any entry or participant. |

|
|
|
Welding |
|
Welding is allowed in the following
areas only, and is strictly enforced: |
|
1. |
|
Bumpers may be welded to the brackets,
and the brackets may be welded to the frame (no welding beyond the
brackets). |
|
2. |
|
Repairs to broken or severely rusted
frames are allowed but must be disclosed to officials at
inspection. If a repair is deemed excessive it must be cut or the
driver and car will be disqualified. |
|
3. |
|
Motor mounts and rear end gears may be
welded. |
|
4. |
|
No other welding on the frame is
allowed. |
|
5. |
|
Doors and trunks may be welded in 6
spots each using 1/4 “plates, no larger than 3”x3” (9 square
inches max.) |
| |
|
** Any welding
other than that described above may result in immediate
disqualification. If there are any questions or concerns regarding
welding please call a listed official. |
| |
|
|
|
Vehicle
Preparation Rules |
|
1. |
|
All vehicles must have an ABC Fire
Extinguisher located in the driver’s compartment, within easy
reach of the driver. |
|
2. |
|
The front driver and passenger doors
must be painted white for numbering and identification. |
|
3. |
|
All suspension must be stock. No
modifications to coil springs or leaf springs are allowed. No
spring-jacks or blocked shocks are allowed. Suspension must be
free of any blocks. |
|
4. |
|
Welded or chained motor mounts are
recommended. |
|
5. |
|
All glass and decorative moldings must
be removed from the vehicle, including headlights, taillights,
mirrors, front windshield and chrome moldings, and vehicle must be
swept clean of any debris. |
|
6. |
|
All seats and flammable material must
be removed from the vehicle (with the exception of the front
seat). |
|
7. |
|
The stock gas tank must be removed
from the vehicle, and replaced with a CSA approved tank or fuel
cell (or an equivalent alternate).
Car tanks must be securely mounted in the rear passenger’s
compartment. Truck tanks must be secured behind the cab, bolted to
the frame. All tanks require a non-flammable cover to be secured
after inspection. Metal tanks are recommended. |

|
** Tanks in poor
condition, or those that have exposed necks may be deemed unsafe,
resulting in disqualification |
|
8. |
|
Electric fuel pumps are permitted, but
must have a functioning shut-off switch within easy reach of the
driver and officials. |
|
9. |
|
Batteries (only one 12V automobile
battery is permitted) must be secured to the floor of the front
passenger area, or within the passenger seat. The battery will
require a non-flammable cover to be secured after the inspection. |
|
10. |
|
Radiators must remain in the stock
position, and may only contain water (no coolant or anti-freeze). |
|
11. |
|
If the body of the car is in poor
condition the body mounts bolts may only be replaced with stock
bolts or reasonable equivalents (official’s discretion will
determine what is reasonable) |
|
12. |
|
If the majority of body mounts have
been replaced with new bolts, then no additional mounts will be
allowed (See rule #14) |
|
13. |
|
The stock rubber body spacers must
remain in place, and the metal centers cannot be removed. |
|
14. |
|
The rubber spacers and metal sleeves
can be removed from the rad cradle, as well as the rear bumper
area (closest set to the rear bumper) and be replaced with a
maximum 1” threaded rod.. |
|
15. |
|
4 additional body mounts may be added
using stock bolts or reasonable equivalents, unless the majority
of the original mounts have been replaced, in which case no
additional mounts are allowed. |
|
16. |
|
All doors and trunks must be wired,
chained or welded shut (driver’s door may be welded solid if
desired). If wired, doors and trunks may only be wired shut in 6
spots each. If welded, doors and trunks may be welded in 6 spots
only, using ¼” plates no larger than 3” x 3” (9 square inches
total). |
|
17. |
|
Hoods must be wired, chained or
strapped shut in 6 spots only. Any rad cradle mounts extending up
through the hood and/or truck are considered as 1 spot. If a large
portion of the centre of the hood has been cut away, then it may
be wired more securely (official’s discretion will determine
overuse of materials). |
|
18. |
|
Frames may not be painted or
undercoated and all accessories (trailer hitches, etc.) must be
removed. |
|
19. |
|
Removal or cutting of fenders or
related body parts is allowed for wheel clearance. |
|
20. |
|
If desired, a bar may run from the
driver’s side post along the back of the driver’s seat to the
passenger side post, however it must be 18” or lower from the top
of the passenger side door body (18” lower from the bottom of the
original passenger window). |
|
21. |
|
If a roll bar requires mounting on the
frame, then bolts may be used, however any bolts used to secure
the roll bar will be considered as part of the 4 additional mounts
listed in rule #15. |
|
22. |
|
A bar or plate must be placed in front
of the driver (from roof to cowl). If using an “A” or “H” frame
the base of the frame cannot exceed 24” on the cowl (dash area),
and should be secured at 18”. |
|
23. |
|
It is recommended that the drivers
door is reinforced with a flat bar or plate on the outside of the
door. The bar or plate may not be wider than 18”, and may not
extend beyond the rear passenger door. Alternatively, a 2' x 30"
plate may be inserted inside the driver’s door. No reinforcements
are allowed across the passenger side door (official’s discretion
will determine overuse of materials). |
|
24. |
|
There must be a hole cut in the center
of the hood (6" minimum diameter) to provide access in the event
of a fire. |
|
25. |
|
Stock bumpers may be replaced with a
reasonable alternate, and may be bent in; however they may not be
cut. Cars must run car bumpers from an eligible vehicle. Trucks
must run truck bumpers from an eligible vehicle. |
|
26. |
|
Rear-ends can be replaced with
reasonable equivalents (5 bolt rear-ends only). |
|
27. |
|
Both front and rear bumpers should be
welded or chained to the brackets or body of the vehicle to
prevent them from falling off and becoming a hazard on the track
(see the limitations regarding welding). |

|
|
|
Equipment
& Driving Rules |
|
1. |
|
All vehicles and drivers must be
equipped with the proper safety equipment at all times (helmets,
goggles and/or a visor, fire extinguisher, seatbelts) |
|
2. |
|
All drivers must be wearing acceptable
attire to participate (no shorts, short sleeves, or tank tops) |
|
3. |
|
Vehicles must have adequate brakes,
and the driver must have control of his vehicle at all times. |
|
4. |
|
Drivers must pay attention to, and
obey the track officials at all times. |
|
5. |
|
No deliberate or aggressive driver
door hits will be tolerated. |
|
6. |
|
If a driver places 2 tires on or over
the track boundary (whether pushed or not) they will be
disqualified. |
|
7. |
|
If a driver deliberately pushes
another driver over the track boundary they will be disqualified. |
|
8. |
|
If a hood, trunk, or any other part of
a vehicle begins to impair the vision of the driver, and causes
that driver to hit the drivers door of another participant, the
offending driver will be disqualified for not having adequate
control of his/her vehicle. |
|
9. |
|
If using metal fan blades and the hood
of the car comes open the driver will be disqualified. |
|
10. |
|
If a car catches fire while
participating the driver will be immediately disqualified (2-3
second carburetor fires will be tolerated if it extinguishes
without the assistance of a driver and/or official). |
|
11. |
|
If a front driver door comes open
while participating, that car and driver will be disqualified. |
|
12. |
|
If a driver’s eye protection (visor,
goggles or glasses) or seatbelt are removed, either by contact or
manually, they can be disqualified. If the driver’s eye protection
is knocked off by contact the driver must stop their vehicle and
replace their eye protection immediately. Failure to do so may
result in disqualification. |
|
13. |
|
A driver that is not making
competitive contact with other active participants will be
disqualified.
NO SANDBAGGING. |
|
14. |
|
It is the driver’s responsibility to
be aware of and obey the track officials at all times. Failure to
do so will result in disqualification. |
|
15. |
|
A heat winner or runner-up that
qualifies for a feature event must drive the same vehicle in the
feature race. |
|
16. |
|
No driver substitutions are allowed.
|

|
|
|
Protesting
|
|
If a driver believes
that another participant is cheating, he/she must approach an
official within 15 minutes after the heat or feature. He/she must
also present a $50.00 protesting fee. If the car in question is
determined to be cheating by the protest fee will be returned.
