SPECIAL PRIZES

RULES

a)       General rules and regulations of the Russell Agricultural Society apply.

b)       Exhibitors must be members of the Russell Agricultural Society.  Memberships, entry forms and entry tags are available from the Secretary.

c)       Entry forms must be in the hands of the Fair Secretary by Friday, August 29, 2008.

d)       Exhibits must be the work of the exhibitor.

e)       The same article can be exhibited for two years only.

f)         All articles must be new or, if entered for the second year, clean.

g)       Only one entry per exhibitor allowed in each numbered category.

h)       All exhibits must be tagged, numbered and in the hall by 9:00 a.m., Thursday, September 4, 2008.  The hall will be open Wednesday, September 3 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m., and on Thursday, September 4 between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. for dropping off exhibits.

i)         No admission to the hall while judging is in progress.

j)         The exhibit hall will be closed between 4:00 and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2008, in order to assemble exhibitor items.  Exhibits must then be picked up between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m. sharp.

k)       In lieu of entry fees, exhibitors will have an extra 10% deducted for winnings over $10.00 (ten dollars).

QUILTS

NOTE:  A champion quilt will be chosen from the first place prize winners in the Quilt Section for the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Quilt Competition.

ONTARIO ASSOCIATION OF AGRICULTURAL SOCIETIES

ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP QUILT COMPETITION

ELIGIBILITY, RULES AND REGULATIONS

GENERAL CONDITIONS

a)      Entries must be solely made and hand quilted by a group or individual and exhibited and judged at a local Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies' (O.A.A.S.) Fair to be eligible for this competition.

b)       Entry quilts must be a minimum of 72" x 90" (smaller quilts will not be eligible to proceed to the next levels of competition).

c)       Judging will occur at local fairs and district levels.  A Provincial Grand Champion Quilt will be selected at the Annual Convention of the O.A.A.S.

d)      Upon making an entry into the O.A.A.S. Quilt Competition, the exhibitor agrees to participate in any promotional activities related to the competition.

e)       The winning O.A.A.S. Quilt will not be eligible to compete in any future district and/or O.A.A.S. convention competitions.

f)         The winner’s name is to be displayed at the Fair on a sign provided by the O.A.A.S.

g)       Machine quilted quilts must not be quilted using a long arm machine and must be machine quilted by the exhibitor, not a professional.

LOCAL FAIR COMPETITIONS

a)    Each local fair is entitled to send only two Grand Champion Quilts, one judged the best of show of all hand quilted classes and one judged best of show of the machine quilted classes, to the District Competition.  In the event either of these entries wins Grand Champion or Best Of All Classes at more than one Fair, the other Fairs at which these quilts were entered and won, should enter their Reserve Champion or Second Best Of Show Of All Classes quilts in the District Competition.

        NOTE:  If an exhibitor wins Grand Champion or Best Of Show of either all  hand quilted classes or machine quilted classes at other than his/her own Fair, or at more than one Fair, the exhibitor must consider the Agricultural Society nearest his/her home address as the one from which the quilt will be sent to the district meeting.

b)       An exhibitor who wins more than one Best of Show title with a different quilt at different Fairs shall be entitled to enter each winning quilt to compete at the district competition.

c)       Local homecraft divisions are requested to judge a Grand Champion or Best Of Show Of All Classes as well as Reserve Grand Champion or Second Best Of Show Of All Classes.  The Grand Champion and the Reserve Grand Champion are judged from all first and second prize quilts.

DISTRICT COMPETITIONS

a)       Judging quilts at the district competition will be the responsibility of each O.A.A.S. district.

b)       The first place winning hand quilted quilts and machine quilted quilts from the district competitions are eligible to enter the O.A.A.S. Championship Quilt Competition at their annual convention.  In cases where the winner of the district first prize quilt decides not to enter the final championship competition, the second prize quilt winner at the district competition will be eligible.

c)       The O.A.A.S. will award prize money of $25 for first place, $15 for second and $10 for third to exhibitors of winning hand quilted quilts at each district competition.  First, second and third prize machine quilted quilts will receive ribbons at each district competition

d)       All district entries must be registered on the O.A.A.S. Championship Quilt Entry Form, returned to the O.A.A.S. Treasurer, Betty Jermyn, Box 653, Mitchell, Ontario N0K 1N0, by November 15, for payment of prize money.  (Note:  Late entry forms may disqualify the district quilt entry from competition.)

O.A.A.S. CHAMPIONSHIP QUILT COMPETITION

a)       Judges who officiate the Championship Quilt Competition at the annual convention will be appointed by the O.A.A.S.

b)       All quilts in the Hand Quilt Competition must be hand quilted.  Quilts entered in the Machine Quilt Competition must be machine quilted/ not by long arm.

c)       All quilt entries must be received for judging by the competition co-ordinator in the designated room between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on the first official day of the annual convention of the O.A.A.S.

d)       The competition co-ordinator will assign a number for each entry.  Entries will be identified by this number only during the competition process.

e)       No exhibitor shall be permitted to place or attach any Fair or other exhibition identification on his or her quilt entry.  Please remove all tags, ribbons, etc.

f)         No persons other than the judges and designated officials will be permitted to enter the designated judging room until after the quilt judging and winner has been announced.

g)       Any exhibitor or any person acting on behalf of the exhibitor who violates any of the rules and regulations or who interferes with the judges or the judging process shall be disqualified and the quilt will be removed from the competition.

h)       No quilt exhibit shall be removed from the display viewing area until the official closing of the viewing room and designated time of pick up.

i)         The O.A.A.S. shall not be held liable for any loss occasioned by fire, theft, accident, condition of quilt, the negligence of other exhibitors, officials or otherwise.

j)         Any protests must be made to the Homecraft Division of the O.A.A.S. in writing within 5 working days after the last day of the convention.

k)       The hand quilted entry judged Best of Show at the February convention will be declared the O.A.A.S. Championship Quilt.  A $500.00 grand prize will be awarded and the exhibitor will retain ownership of the quilt.  A certificate and ribbon will also be awarded to the winner.  The machine-quilted entry judged Best of Show will be declared the O.A.A.S. Championship Machine Quilt.  A grand prize will be awarded and the exhibitor will retain ownership of the quilt.  A certificate and a ribbon will also be awarded to both winners.

REMEMBER – ENTRY QUILTS MUST BE A MINIMUM OF 72" x 90" TO BE ELIGIBLE TO PROCEED TO THE NEXT LEVELS OF COMPETITION.

COMMUNITY SERVICE CHALLENGE

Open to individuals, members and non-members, of Russell Agricultural Society.  Each exhibitor must obtain an exhibitor number and complete and submit an entry form to the Secretary by August 31, 2007.  Attached to the entry there must be an entry tag.  The entry tag must include the class name, i.e., Hat for Cancer Patient, the exhibitor's number, name, address and telephone number.  Entry tags and entry forms can be obtained by contacting the Fair Secretary.

§    There is NO ENTRY FEE FOR THIS CLASS.

§    Exhibit will be judged on workmanship and neatness.

§    All entries in this class become the property of the Russell Agricultural Society.

§    All blankets will be donated to the nursery at Winchester District Memorial Hospital.

§    One entry per exhibitor.
