RULES


a) All entries, including those in the Open Class, must be submitted by teachers from participating schools.

b) Teachers may send up to three entries per classroom for each of the designated activities.

c) Entries must correspond to all specifications listed in the activity.  Entries that do not will be disqualified.

d) Classes refer to the grade level of the current school year.

e) Submitted entries must have completed entry tags securely attached to entry prior to submission.

f) Entries must have the name of the school, class and entry section number written on the entry tags.

g) Entries will be collected during the week of September 2, before Thursday, September 4, 2008.

h) All submissions will be returned to the school for distribution to students.

 

ENTRY SECTIONS


CLASS - 4 YEAR KINDERGARTEN

1. Painting, 9" x 12" paper, "This is Me" (picture of whole body)

2. On black 8 1/2” x 11” paper, any medium, make a Canadian Flag.

CLASS - 5 YEAR KINDERGARTEN

3. Painting, 9” x 12” paper, “A Farm Animal”.
4. Using a paper plate, create a flower, with accents.

CLASS - GRADE 1

5. Printing, in English or French, on 8 1/2” x 11” paper, the names of the parts of any animal (teacher to provide a photocopied picture and have child label six body parts.) May also be coloured with crayon or pencil crayon.
6. On 9" x 12" paper, a sponge painting of “An Autumn Tree”.
7. Using a minimum of three different geometric shapes or three different sizes of the same shape and a minimum of three colours, create a picture on 8 ½” x 11” black paper.
8. Create a paper plate mask, any subject.

CLASS - GRADE 2

9. On 9" x 12" paper, using pencil crayons or markers, draw a picture of a dinosaur.
10. Create a 5-part mobile, any medium, any subject.
11. On 8 1/2” x 11” paper, draw a picture of “your job” when you are grown up, including a brief description and title.
12. Create a two-dimensional wizard hat from construction paper with accents, to be mounted on 9” x 12” paper.

CLASS - GRADE 3

13. On 8 1/2” x 11” paper, using any medium, create and name a new animal or creature
14. Write a paragraph about Canada in English, French or bilingual.
15. On 8 1/2" x 11" paper, create a “lift the flap” picture, using pencil crayon and construction paper. For example, a shoe – draw and cut out a shoe from construction paper. Under the shoe would be a foot. Draw the foot directly onto the 8 1/2” x 11” paper. Glue one side of the shoe to the foot, so that the foot is revealed when you lift up the shoe.
16. On 9" x 12” paper, using pencil crayons or markers, draw “My Favourite Sport”.

CLASS - GRADE 4

17. On 9" x 12" paper, any medium, “My Favourite Meal”.
18. A poem, any subject in English, French or bilingual.
19. On 81/2” x 11” paper, any medium, draw a “Play on Words” (example: paint the town red, cool as a cucumber.
20. On 9” x 12” paper, create a map of Russell, must include at least 5 buildings and/or landmarks with labels.

CLASS - GRADES 5 AND 6

21. On 8 1/2" x 11" paper, any medium, create and name a villain or super hero.
22. On 9” x 12” paper, any medium, draw “The Universe”.
23. Split picture, made by cutting one half from a magazine, the other half re-created by the student, mounted on 9" x 12" paper, any medium, any subject.
24. On 9" x 12" paper, any medium, draw a picture of a maze, any type.

CLASS - GRADES 7 AND 8

25. 8 1/2” x 11” paper, any medium, design your “ideal” bedroom.
26. On 9” x 12” paper, create an “ad” for the product of your choice.
27. On 9” x 12” paper, create a poster promoting a health message.

CLASS - OPEN CLASS, GRADES 5 T0 8

28. On 8 1/2” x 11” paper, create a cartoon strip – must be at least three panels in length.
29. Design a poster for the movie of your choice.
30. Write and illustrate a children’s story, maximum 500 words. Can be typewritten.
